Better Call Saul, Or Just Threaten To

So, it’s been 3 ½ weeks since our motorhome caught fire and we still had no information as of this morning. John has been investigated three times for the fire, once by a federal agent (last week), who cleared him immediately and wondered why he had been sent three hours from his home for nothing.

We first had an insurance agent ‘helping’ us for two weeks (“Just another day or two” he claimed the entire time), who then told us he didn’t do fire claims. Umm, the entire claim was fire related. Then we got a new agent who never called us back for an entire week. John managed to get her to email him back, and at that time she informed us that we were no longer her clients; we were being sent back to the original agent.

After receiving no information for the past few days, John called corporate and said we were probably going to have to retain a lawyer.

Within 15 minutes we found out the motorhome was totaled, how much we were getting back and when. John then asked how much it would cost for us to buy it back and try to fix it ourselves. They want us to pay just $5000 less than what they are giving us for it being totaled. So, if there is only $5000 damage, why is it being totaled and not repaired? We intend to ask that very question on Monday. By the way, the insurance company is Liberty Mutual. Run away from them like your life depended on it if they are your insurer!

The disheartening moral of this story? When in doubt, threaten someone. When they then tell you something preposterous, threaten them again. Sigh.
